PROJECT: Wallpaper reconstruction at Vooruit, Ghent (B)
DECEMBER 2025

The historic ‘Vooruit’ building (1911-1913), currently known as Kunstenhal VierNulVier, underwent a massive restoration.
I was invited by Group Monument / Altri Tempi to work on the reconstruction of the wallpaper for the ballroom.

A vague black and white picture was all I had to reconstruct the design. I tried to stay as close as possible to the layout of the pattern, however the type of flowers I used was based on similar textiles and wallpapers from that era that I had in my archive.

Together with architect Leen Bruggeman (Arch&Teco) we updated the colors so they would match the original paint colors as well as 21st century setting in which the ballroom is now functioning.

Credits to Jantien Vermeiren for the picture of the ballroom showing where the wallpaper is installed.
